A firm that develops, builds, owns and operates renewable energy power plants, Amp Energy India has commissioned a 5 MW solar power plant for vaccine biopharmaceutical major BSV (Bharat Serums and Vaccines Ltd). The solar project,  commissioned in the last quarter of 2022, will come up in Maharashtra’s Osmanabad, and provide solar power to BSV’s facility located in Ambernath.

As per the statement of the firm, the partnership will help BSV meet its yearly energy needs of close to 65%. It will also facilitate the biopharmaceutical firm to make 35% savings on its overall energy costs on a year-on-year basis. The plant will make it possible to reduce about 6,560 metric tonne of CO2 per annum for BSV, enabling it to follow its path of sustainability targets through carbon reduction.

Pinaki Bhattacharyya, MD & CEO, Amp Energy India, said, “We believe that this partnership will provide the right impetus for pharmaceutical industry to become environmentally conscious and switch to RE for reducing their energy costs and meeting their sustainability target as BSV is the leading biotech and pharmaceutical company in India.” He further pointed out, “We are the most sought-after renewable energy transition partners to pharma and healthcare companies in India as and are currently serving about seven customers in this category. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the BSV team for their support in timely delivery of the project.”

Sounding hopeful about the reduction of carbon footprint, Chirag Mehta, Chief Financial Officer, BSV, states, ”As we remain committed to building a future ready and sustainable BSV, we are confident that our efforts to reduce carbon footprint will enable us to achieve our sustainability goals and contribute towards our country’s commitment of achieving 40% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil energy sources by 2030. Through this partnership with Amp Energy India, we re-affirm our efforts towards mitigating the effects of climate change.”

In March 2022, Bharat Serums and Vaccines (BSV) held announced that it had acquired a 26% stake in AMP Energy C&I One. The acquisition was meant to supply green energy for its manufacturing facility in Ambernath in Maharashtra. Corporate buyers of renewable energy from captive or dedicated projects are usually mandated to have part ownership of the projects.

Preceding this, Cipla – another pharma giant – had announced that it would procure 16 MW green energy from Amp Energy’s open access solar project to be commissioned in Osmanabad, Maharashtra.
