Greenlight Planet Rolls Out Next-Generation Solar Lamps with Cheaper Pricing & Better Quality

Greenlight Planet boasts the new devices are more powerful versions than existing solar lamps and with a dramatic increase in brightness and phone-charging capacity.

Green energy startup Greenlight Planet, which has operations in India and Africa, has announced the launch of a new line of solar lanterns, the Sun King Pro 400, Sun King Pro 300, and the Sun King Pico Plus.

The company boasts the new devices are more powerful versions than existing solar lamps, with a dramatic increase in brightness and phone-charging capacity, at lower cost, while retaining popular elements like their famously indestructible design.

T.Patrick Walsh, Greenlight Planet CEO said the enhancements are a direct response to the evolving priorities of the company’s customer base. “It’s been nearly ten years since we launched the first Sun King product, and people’s needs have changed. Rural consumers today expect brighter light, on par with standard home lighting on the electrical grid. And they need more power to charge their increasingly battery-hungry smartphones,” Walsh said and aims to meet these demands with the new line of modernized, high-performance lanterns.

According to the company statement, technical improvements in solar lamps include higher capacity batteries and USB phone charging ports, along with significantly larger 5.5-watt solar panels.

“New, higher-efficiency LEDs can be found in all three of the new models. And with roughly double the brightness and battery power of their predecessors, the Sun King Pro 400, Sun King Pro 300, and the Sun King Pico Plus still manage to achieve unparalleled affordability through increased efficiency and a newly streamlined design,” it said.

Specialities of each new model are given as:

Sun King Pro 400: Shines at 40X the brightness of kerosene (400 lumens) for 5 hours, with 100 hours at its lowest brightness setting after a single day of charge. Suggested to retail at INR 2699

Sun King Pro 300: Shines at 30X the brightness of kerosene (300 lumens) for 6.5 hours, with 100 hours at its lowest brightness setting after a single day of charge. Suggested to retail at INR 2299

Sun King Pico Plus: Shines at 5X the brightness of kerosene (50 lumens), with 72 hours after a single sunny day of solar charging. Suggested to retail at INR 499

Greenlight Planet recently secured USD 60 million in equity and debt funding – amongst the highest in the solar sector to further its expansion plans to underserved rural populations across Africa and Asia.
