New Delhi-based motorcycle and scooter manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have collaborated to establish charging infrastructure for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in across India.  This partnership will help mass mobility transition to an electrified future by establishing charging stations for two-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs) across the nation.

This partnership between the two giant companies, Hero MotoCorp and HPCL, exemplifies their efforts to facilitate a smooth transition of mass mobility to EVs with the assurance of long-term solutions.

The two businesses will first set up charging infrastructure at HPCL’s current network of nationwide energy stations, with the possibility of extending the relationship in the future for more business prospects.

To create a high-density network of EV charging stations across the nation, charging stations will be installed in a few significant cities in the first phase, and from there, they will be spread to other important markets.

The charging network’s infrastructure will be developed under the direction of Hero MotoCorp. Each charging station will have several smart and fast chargers, as well as DC and AC chargers that are accessible to all-electric vehicles with two wheels. Based on a cashless transaction concept, a Hero MotoCorp mobile app will manage the complete customer charging experience.

Additionally, there will be quicker opportunities to broaden the scope of activities and services with the robust HPCL energy station network.

“This is significant, as more than 60% of the EVs sold in India are two-wheelers and therefore, a robust charging ecosystem for them is the need of the hour so that there is no range anxiety among the owners of the e2wheelers,” said Dr. Pushp Kumar Joshi Chairman & Managing Director, HPCL.

Recently, a startup company named EVIT joined hands with  HPCL to establish charging stations in important towns and on highways in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. EVIT has 380 EV chargers spread throughout 17 cities in India.
