Despite dwindling car sales there is some consolation for top automaker Mercedes-Benz this season. Just when the sales of its fossil fuel based cars declined by a massive 16 per cent in the quarter that spanned April to June compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year. But, the sales of its battery based electric vehicles (BEV) has nearly doubled.

The company has said that its BEV order book increased to 23,5000 units which is 90 per cent more this quarter.

In the fresh announcement, Mercedes-Benz has informed that it sold just 490,000 cars in the previous quarter of April to June. The German automaker has said that restrictions caused due to severe COVID lockdown measures and the un-ceasing semiconductor shortages have led to the decline in its business.

All of the electric car models of the company including hybrids saw a growth of 2 per cent. In absolute numbers, these cars sold 65,400 units last quarter. In the first six months of 2022, the BEV sales swelled by 134 per cent to 45,400 units; more credit to the supply of EQE. Across the globe, its electric cars’ deliveries rose by 14 per cent in the first half of this year.

Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales, stated, “Customer demand remains high. This is an honour and obligation for us. We are making every effort to fulfil customer expectations, despite the current supply restrictions.”

Seeger further held, “The electric ramp up is gaining traction: Sales of our fully electric vehicles increased by more than 90% in Q2 and even 134% in the first half of 2022. It shows that we offer compelling electric vehicles that our customers desire.”

The Mercedes-Maybach achieved the company’s best-ever sales for a second-quarter by delivering 4,400 vehicles. This was 25 per cent higher. Also, the flagship S-Class and EQS sales rose to 21,700 and 8,500 cars in the first half of 2022.
