NTPC Operationalises 50 MW Solar Project in Nokhra, Bikaner

  • The first and second part capacities of 150 MW in total were already declared commercial operation in December 2022.

State-owned entity National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has said in a BSE revelation that consequent upon successful commissioning, third part capacity of 50 MW out of 300 MW Nokhra Solar PV Project at Bikaner, Rajasthan, is declared on Commercial Operation from February 16, 2023.

NTPC mentioned that the first part capacity of 100 MW has already been declared on commercial operation on December 20, 2022 and second part capacity of 50 MW was operationalised on December 30, 2022.

With this project becoming operational, the standalone installed and commercial capacity of NTPC will become 58979 MW & 58319 MW respectively. The installed and commercial capacity of NTPC will become 71594 MW & 70934 MW respectively.

NTPC at Nokhra

At the Nokhra Project site, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd has the task of the 160 MW Jetsar Solar PV project spread over 844 acres land that has been provided by National Seeds Corporation Ltd. (NSCL) under lease model. The project has been won by the company under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding conducted by SECI for solar project located in Rajasthan.

Project is being developed under EPC model through M/s Tata Power Solar System Ltd. and power shall be evacuated through two 220kV sub-stations of RRVPNL. The annual energy yield from 300 MW Nokhra Solar Project is expected to be 760 million units that will abet more than 654 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into atmosphere.

In July last year, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NREL) and Rajasthan Government signed an MoU for a 10 GW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPP) to be developed in the desert state. The firm is also developing a UMREPP of 4.75 GW capacity in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.

The PSU shared its results for October-December quarter of the current financial year revealing a net profit of Rs 4,854.36 crore which is nearly 5 per cent higher as compared to the year-ago period. NTPC added 3127 MW of operational capacity in last quarter and more than 50% of it is in the form of solar/floating solar capacity.
