NTPC Reports 5% PAT Growth YoY in Q3, Renewable Capacity Dominates Additions

NTPC, which is India’s largest energy conglomerate, has shared its results for Q3. The entity has reported a net profit of Rs 4,854.36 crore for the October-December quarter of FY23 on Saturday, nearly 5 per cent higher as compared to Rs 4,626.11 crore in the year-ago period. The company’s board has also declared a Rs 4.25 dividend for shareholders.

Sequential turnover barely grew, to Rs 44989 crores as compared to Rs 44681 crores in Q2 . However, when compared with the corresponding  quarter in December 2021, the firm grew a solid 33% from the level of Rs 33,783 crores in the December quarter of 2021. NTPC’s average power tariff during April-December 2022 stood at Rs 4.96 per unit compared to Rs 3.95 per unit a year ago.

The installed capacity of NTPC has grown by 3,127 MW Y-o-Y to 70,884 MW. The commercial capacity has also seen upsurge by 2,256 MW Y-o-Y to 58,269 MW as of December 31, 2022. The gross power generation is up by 2.972 Billion units in Q3 to 78.646 BUs. The commercial generation has grown by 3.052 Billion units and 2.445 Billion units Year on Year to 78.626 BUs and 72,870 Bus, respectively.

Recently, NTPC held that it recorded a generation of 295.4 billion units of power during April to December period of 2022. NTPC held that through this it has registered a growth of 11.6 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year (2021).

The state-owned firm has in its kitty the milestone of 3 GW operational capacity following the commissioning of 100 MW of solar capacity at its Nokhra Project in Rajasthan. It is worth noting that out of the 3127 MW of capacity it added during the quarter, over  50% is in the form of solar/floating solar capacity additions.

To wit, one unit of 660 MW at Nabinagar, 400 MW solar capacity at Shambhu Ka Bhurj, 80 MW solar capacity at Jetsar, 246.08 MW solar capacity at Fatehgarh, 240 MW solar capacity at Devikot, 230 MW solar capacity at Ettayyapuram, 150 MW solar capacity at Nokhra, 62.50 MW floating solar at Ramagundam, 92 MW floating solar at Kayamkulam, 56 MW solar capacity at Kawas, 20 MW floating solar at Auraiya, 10 MW solar capacity at Gandhar, 10 MW solar capacity at Solapur, 270 MW at NSPCL and acquisition of 600 MW coal capacity at Jhabua.

For NTPC, the future outlook continues to be strong, both with growing power demand, a growing renewables portfolio, and rising  mining numbers from the coal mines under its control
