PGCIL to Build Renewable Energy Management Centre in Hyderabad

The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) Chairman Managing Director K Sreekant has said that PGCIL will establish a Renewable Energy Management Centre (REMC) with 100 per cent grant of Rs 17.6 crore at Vidyut Soudha, Hyderabad.

The CMD said that artificial intelligence-based forecasting and scheduling tools will be employed at the Renewable Energy Management Centre. K Sreekant stated that the centre will offer greater visualisation and enhanced decision making as far as load dispatch operations are concerned.

The PGCIL CMD visited the Transmission Corporation of Telangana (TSTRANSCO) and met its CMD, D Prabhakar Rao, to appreciate the best practices of TSTRANSCO.

K Sreekant stated on the occasion that the transmission availability of TSTRANSCO was one of the highest in India at 99.99%. He also assured that Power Grid would extend utmost cooperation and co-ordination for utilizing the common facilities of PGCIL and TSTRANSCO for further strengthening of the 400 KV transmission system in Telangana.

PGCIL is establishing the REMC in due recognition of effective handling of ever increasing RE in integrating with the state grid in a most sustainable manner by the State Load Dispatch Centre (TS SLDC).

K Sreekant also appreciated the good suggestion of TSTRANSCO to adopt transmission towers with increased heights in the forest areas to facilitate easier forest clearances. He mentioned that the suggestion and concept proposed by TS Transco was being studied by PGCIL and the implementation of it will definitely reduce the gestation period of transmission projects.

About a week ago, the PGCIL had said that the Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects has approved investments to strengthen the transmission system beyond Kolhapur (Maharashtra) for the export of power from solar and wind energy zones in the Southern Region. PGCIL said that the project cost will be Rs 129.28 crore and is scheduled to be commissioned by February next year.

In a regulatory filing, PGCIL said, “Evacuation of renewable energy (RE) in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin Wind Energy Zone 500 MW at an estimated cost of ₹120.09 crore scheduled to be commissioned by March, 2023.”
