New York anticipates the procurement of at least 2 GW of offshore wind energy. Additionally, it expects to procure up to 4.7 GW in the third round of procurement in order to acquire a cumulative of 9 GW of offshore wind energy. This forms a major part of the United States’ goal to achieve 30 GW of offshore wind power by 2030. Siemens Gamesa’s has had an impressive trajectory of setting up major manufacturing facilities in markets with lucrative and stable frameworks that help meet the increasing demand for offshore wind.

“The announcement of this proposed facility in New York is a major step forward in our desire to lead the massive U.S. offshore wind market. We’re excited by the opportunity presented by the State of New York to further develop our manufacturing footprint. We have a solid history in delivering on our commitments across the globe, including the establishment of offshore wind-focused plants in Denmark, France, Germany, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The numerous economic, employment, and environmental benefits that offshore wind presents are enhanced by solid policies and frameworks, which are critical for financial success,” said Marc Becker, CEO of Siemens Gamesa’s offshore business.

The facility and supplier network that is set for establishment in New York will provide components for all the offshore wind power projects along the U.S. East Coast of the firm.

Siemens Gamesa’s has been on a manufacturing and job creation spree in the United States and is a part of the firm’s strategic goals to localize its offshore wind power supply chain on the U.S. East Coast. It further gives momentum to the firm’s offshore wind turbine blade facility in Portsmouth, Virginia. This announcement was made in October 2021.
