SJVN To Build Two Solar Power Projects For Rs 690 Cr In Uttar Pradesh

State-owned renewable energy player SJVN has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Solarworld Energy Solutions for the development of two solar power projects in Uttar Pradesh. There will be a total investment of more than Rs 690 crore and the total generation capacity of the two solar projects shall be 125 MW.

The official statement held, “SJVN today entered into an EPC (Engineering Procurement & Construction) contract for two projects namely 75 MW Solar Project at Gurah district Jalaun and 50 MW Solar Project at Gujrai district Kanpur Dehat with Solarworld Energy Solutions Private Ltd.”

The contract value of the Gurah solar project stands at Rs 410.75 crore and will generate 159 MU worth of energy annually with a Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) of 24.22 per cent. The Gujrai solar project is worth Rs 280 crore. It will produce 106 MU of energy every year with a CUF of 24.20 per cent.

SJVN informed that both the solar power projects will be commissioned in April next year.

SJVN has stated that the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the two solar projects entails end-to-end delivery of the commissioned solar plant to the RE company. The contract also envisages comprehensive operation and maintenance of the said solar PV plants for a two-year period.

Nand Lal Sharma, CMD of SJVN, shared that his company won the solar projects through tariff-based competitive bidding held by Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). SJVN had offered a tariff of Rs 2.98 per unit in the bid. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) will buy the power produced in the two solar projects for 25 years.

“Recent successive additions of new renewable projects in the company’s portfolio shows our commitment to empower the nation for expanding its non-fossil fuel-based energy and decarbonisation of the economy,” said the CMD.

SJVN maintains an impressive portfolio of about 31.5 GW both in India and on the international level. It now also delves into power transmission and power trading.
