Togo’s government has issued a request for proposals (RFP) from shortlisted bidders for a 50 MW grid-connected solar PV tender held in December 2019 as part of the Scaling Solar Initiative of the World Bank Group.

The last date for submitting the online bid is December 15, 2022. To build two solar PV projects with capacities ranging from 60 to 80 MW in Kpalassi, in the Kara region, and Salimde, in the central area, the Togo government issued the tender in December 2019.

The capacity was given in a range in the announced tender, but it has now been determined to be 50 MW solar project. Nine bidders were qualified to develop the solar project based on their experience, knowledge, and financial resources.

The nine bidders who met the requirements to receive the RFP are Access/ TSK Togo IPP Consortium, EDF Renewables/ Meridiam, Engie Global Developments, Globeleq Africa Holdings, IB Vogt/ Elsewedy, Nareva Renewables, Samsung C&T Corporation, Scatec Solar ASA, and Taqa Morocco.

The project will be created as part of the Scaling Solar effort of the World Bank, which aims to assist numerous low-income, fragile, and conflict-affected states in achieving energy security and long-term low-carbon growth.

According to the Togolese government, the Scaling Solar initiative of the World Bank would help the nation create clean energy projects in 2020. Scaling Solar combines several services under a single engagement to develop solar power markets in each client nation. The “one-stop shop” program seeks to quickly and affordably operationalize privately funded grid-connected solar installations.

Earlier, Togo received a fresh loan from the West African Development Bank for the development of a 42 MWp solar power plant in Awandjelo area of Northern Togo. The bank is an international Multilateral Development Bank meant for the development of Francophone and Lusophone in West Africa.
