Voltalia Begins Setting Up 59 MW Brazil Wind Farm

The VSM4 project is in Voltalia’s Serra Branca cluster, the world’s biggest wind-and-solar cluster

Voltalia, an international player in renewable energy sector, started construction of its 59 MW VSM4 wind farm in the Serra Branca cluster, Brazil. Nordex Group is supplying the 17 wind turbines to be installed at the VSM4 site, each with a power rating of 3.46 MW. The wind farm is expected to start generating power during the first semester of 2021.

Sébastien Clerc, Chief Executive Officer of Voltalia, said, “Just a few weeks after commissioning VSM1 (163 MW), Voltalia’s biggest wind farm, and with VSM2 (128 MW) and VSM3 (150 MW) already under construction, I am pleased to announce the start of the construction of the VSM4 (59 MW) project in our Serra Branca cluster. This new wind plant in Brazil, backed by long-term power sales agreements, shows our full commitment to supporting private companies in their energy transition.”

The Serra Branca cluster accommodates a 2.4 GW grid-connection infrastructure, developed and built by Voltalia, servicing 0.8 GW of Voltalia wind plants in operation and construction, 0.3 GW of Voltalia solar projects, 0.7 GW of wind plants sold to partners, and 0.7 GW of further potential to be sold to partners or kept by Voltalia.

In February 2020, Voltalia announced that it will be providing engineering, procurement and turnkey construction (EPC) services followed by operation and maintenance (O&M) services to Smartenergy for three solar plants in Portugal with a total capacity of 134 MW.
